More than 80 per cent of skiers in the UK who completed a survey organised by the airline Swiss want to take their own equipment with them while on a ski holiday – but more than half say they have been charged excess baggage fares in the past.

“One of the biggest gripes of those heading to the slopes is being charged excess baggage fees, with over 50% of those surveyed experiencing additional luggage expenditure,” said a statement on behalf of Swiss, which does not charge to carry ski equipment.

“There’s nothing worse than going on holiday and not being able to take everything you want due to baggage restrictions,” said Felix Rodel, Director UK and Ireland, SWISS, who added, “This is particularly important when it comes to active holidays when you want to use your own skis or golf clubs rather than hire when you get to the resort.”

Swiss is also on a search for the biggest skiing fashion faux-pas going and skiers and boarders are encouraged to upload a picture of themselves in their most questionable ski attire to the airline’s Facebook pages for a chance to win return flights to Switzerland and £500 worth of vouchers from Ellis Brigham.
