Obertauern in Austria is celebrating 50 years since the Beatles rolled up to shoot the ski scenes in the movie Help! On the village’s slopes.
A series of events are planned through the winter, kicking off with Beatles tribute band, The Backwards, performing at the resort’s opening weekend celebrations next weekend on 29th November.
Then from 14th to 21st March 2015 – the exact week, 50 years on, to the one when the fab four came to town, a special ‘Anniversary week’ is planned.
The full details of the week are still being decided, but confirmed events so far include a live performance of the Beatles’ inspired musical, ‘All You Need Is Love’ performed by tribute act Twist & Shout on 17th March. On 19th March a further tribute band, The Cavern Club Beatles, will perform ‘An Evening With…’ including live musical performances of Beatles classics.
Angie McCartney, Paul’s 84 year old former step mother and the star’s step-sister Ruth McCartney will also be attending to provide personal reminiscences. Tickets for each event are 53 Euros for adults with children under 13, free.
The Beatles stayed in the Hotel Edelweiss during their stay in Obertauern and hosted a wrap party for the film’s cast and crew there on the evening of 20th March, 1965.
A number of leading UK ski holiday operators offer packages to Obertauern including Crystal and Inghams.
