Zermatt is reported to be building an International Ski Federation (FIS) approved ski racing slope.

In an interview with business website MoneyCab, Markus Hasler, the CEO of the resort’s lift company Zermatt Bergbahnen AG said the company was covering the costs of creating the new World Cup Downhill Run in the Gornergrat ski area themselves.

“The slope is primarily being created to improve the offer for our guests, the fact that the planned piste will be designed to be able to host an FIS downhill race for men is an additional benefit,” he said, adding that the run will be used, “…in the eventual future organization of World Cup races.”
