Fresh Snowfall In The Alps

Up to 20cm of fresh snowfall has been reported above 3,000m on ski slopes in the Alps.

It’s the first snowfall of meteorological autumn and a positive sign after the long, hot summer closed summer ski areas.

Currently only Italy’s Passo Stelvio, which re-opened after a three week closure last weekend, is open for skiing. It was one of those reporting fresh snow this week.

Around six other Alpine glaciers plan to open, or re-open before the end of the month however, all being well. Fresh snow at The Kitzsteinhorn above Kaprun in Salzburgerland is pictured top, it expects to open for the 26-27 season in early October. One influencer up on Zermatt’s glacier yesterday reported fresh snow and subzero temperatures has left it in much better shape.

Lots of other areas have reported fresh snowfall on high terrain however.  This was La Plagne in the Paradiski region.
