Where’s the Snow in Italy For the Week Ending February 18, 2017?

It has been a good week on Italian slopes with snow across much of the country’s main ski regions.

The news is particularly good for the dolomites which had had very little natural snowfall to date this season, but many areas got 30cm/a foot of snow, completely transforming conditions which were previously limited to machine made snow.

There remains something of a divide with 20-50cm snow depths in the dolomites to the northeast and 1-2m cover in the Alps to the northwest, but both sides are definitely looking better than a week ago.

The biggest falls in Italy were reported at Macugnaga with 85cm, Livigno with 75cm and in the Milky Way and Cervinia regions which got around 60cm.

The picture for the week ahead is very mixed with forecasters predicting more big snowfalls at some Italian areas, particularly in the west, and more moderate falls at other areas, including resorts in the Dolomites.
