Brentwood Park Ski Centre

Overlooking more than 50 acres of scenic Essex woodland, Brentwood Park Ski Centre is one of the South East’s most established outdoor snow sports venues.

Utilizing high-performance SkiTech/Dendix surfaces, the centre provides an affordable and accessible alternative to indoor snow domes, allowing skiers and snowboarders to develop technical precision in the fresh air.

Whether you are a London-based professional or a family introducing your children to the slopes, Brentwood offers diverse terrain ranging from steep 180-metre main runs to gentle nursery slopes.

The centre is a renowned hub for the local racing community, serving as the home base for the Essex Ski Racing Club. Beyond the competitive edge, Brentwood Park is famous for its inclusive “Ladies Mornings” and intensive “Junior Camps,” making it a cornerstone for grassroots snow sports in the region.

Its combination of competitive lift pass rates and comprehensive 1-on-1 tuition makes it a standout choice for those preparing for the winter season while building the foundational skills needed for mountain skiing.

KEY INFORMATION

GETTING THERE

Brentwood Park is exceptionally easy to reach, located just a few minutes from the M25 (Junction 28) and the A12. It sits approximately 15 minutes from Brentwood town centre and is roughly a 45-minute drive from Central London. For those traveling by rail, Brentwood station (Elizabeth Line) provides the nearest major link, followed by a short taxi ride to the Warley Gap site.

SLOPE DETAILS

The centre features five distinct slope areas designed to cater to every skill level:

  • Main Slope: 180 metres long with a challenging gradient for experienced skiers.
  • Slope 2: 140 metres, ideal for intermediate transition.
  • Snowboard Park: 70 metres, featuring a half-pipe and freestyle features.
  • Nursery Slopes (4 & 5): Two 50-metre dedicated areas for absolute beginners.
  • Skill Level: Novice to Racing Standard.

LIFTS

Brentwood provides a variety of ascension mechanisms with a total capacity of approximately 1,200 passengers per hour.

  • 1 x T-bar/Platter Lift: Serves the main parallel runs.
  • 1 x J-bar Lift: Reliable uphill travel for intermediates.
  • 1 x Rope Tow: A “baby lift” with a low rope specifically for the nursery area.
  • 1 x People Mover: A specialized mechanism for easy access to learner zones.

SNOW / SURFACE

The centre utilizes a SkiTech and Dendix dry slope surface. This “bristle” style surface offers a consistent level of friction year-round. It is highly effective for developing strong edge control, a skill that is vital before transitioning to real snow.

FAQs

Is this slope good for beginners?
Yes. Brentwood has two dedicated nursery slopes and offers both 4-hour and 8-hour intensive group courses to take beginners through the foundation stages quickly.

Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. All activities, including recreational practice and tubing, must be pre-booked. Availability can be checked by calling the office directly.

Is equipment hire included?
Yes. The cost of your session includes the hire of skis/snowboards, boots, and poles. Helmets are also provided free of charge.

Do I need a lesson before I can practice on my own?
Yes. For safety reasons, all skiers and snowboarders must meet a “minimum competency standard” before using the slopes for open practice. This means you must be able to link your turns, control your speed, and use the drag lifts safely.

Can I still ski if it is raining?
Absolutely. Brentwood Park operates in all weather conditions, and many locals actually prefer the slopes when they are slightly damp, as it can make the dry-slope surface feel faster and “slicker.”

COMPARISON LINE

Compared to indoor real-snow centres, Brentwood Park offers a more technical variety of gradients and specialized racing environments at a significantly lower price point, though it requires strict adherence to long-sleeved clothing for safety.
