Anyone who has been staying in the authentic French ski village of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise on New Year’s Day in recent years may have been surprised to see skiers heading past in their swimwear, regardless of the temperature or the weather.
For several years now the village has kicked off the New Year with “the Chilly Run” which gathers the boldest participants for a ski run in swimsuits or fancy dress, the kind of event that usually happens at the end of the season in springtime, creating an event that is both icy and, as its in fact a charity fundraiser, heartwarming.
Last winter, participants and partners raised €2,770 for WaterAid and each edition supports a different charity.
“This playful tradition shows that the year can begin with laughter while supporting a worthy cause,” a village spokesperson commented.
