Switzerland Snow Forecast and Report to January 12th, 2018

STORY BY Patrick Thorne 7th January 2018

It has been a remarkably snowy week in Switzerland with some huge snowfalls.

Unfortunately these came with strong winds and torrential rain at times leading to avalanches which closed roads and conditions that led to ski areas to close for safety reasons.

Things have stabilised over the weekend but more heavy snow is expected along the country’s southern borders at the start of this week.

There’s less snow forecast elsewhere, only 5cm in the next few days for Engelberg for example, which has posted the deepest snow base in Europe for the past few weeks and s now up to 495cm – that’s 18.5 feet.
