The 2016-17 ski season has got underway in North America.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in Colorado, USA, has kicked off its 70th season.

Over 3000 happy skiers and snowboarders turned up to take laps on the intermediate High Noon run. Recent snowmaking efforts allowed High Noon to open with one of the widest and best snow surfaces it has ever had for opening day, and snowmakers took advantage of the temps to start snowmaking on Ramrod, which will be the next run to open.

The resort join around 20 ski areas already open in Europe, which have also been joined by Kitzbuhel in Austria, Les 2 Alpes in France and the Diavolezza Glacier near St Moritz in Switzerland which opened today.

Arapahoe Basin will continue to operate for skiing and snowboarding seven days a week through closing day, and will open terrain as snowmaking and Mother Nature allow!

A-Basin has Colorado’s and one of the world’s longest ski and ride seasons, the ski area plans to remain open until early June 2017.
