With Les 2 Alpes deciding not to open due to limited snow cover on its glacier, Tignes (below) remains the only ski area open in France at present.

It currently looks likely to stay that way until Val Thorens begins the process of four weekends of season openings for hundreds of French resorts from the latter half of November.

Last year however there was a lot of early snow in November and ski areas like Alpe d’Huez and Courchevel opened early – so at this moment anything is possible.

There has been fresh snowfalls through October and we begin November with sub-zero temps and snowmaking going as at Val Thorens (Video and image top)
