The authentic French resort of Le Grand Bornand in the Aravis Region has unveiled a new version of its Rosay gondola, the main access lift to the ski area departing from Le Grand-Bornand Village.
However along with the usual technical improvements, the upgraded gondola is quite striking to look at too, with each cabin having its own unique artwork painted on to it.
The new look is the work of artists who came together under the artistic leadership of local painter Pierre Amoudry set about decorating the cabins to create the open air art gallery.
There are 55 original artworks – one for every cabin – inspired by the resort’s photographic archive. With the help of poems, each one shows users an aspect of Le Grand-Bornand’s unique character.
Users will find a different feel inside the cabins too as the eight seats are arranged in a ‘‘lounge’’ effect arranged in a ring all around the edge of the cabin to make the best use of space. The operators say two more people can squeeze in “at busy times.”
