A rare new ski region in the Austrian Tirol will open this winter thanks to a gondola connection between Alpbach and the Wildschonau ski areas.
The new ‘Ski Juwel’ (translating as ‘Ski Jewel’ or ‘Ski Gem’) area will finally link the neighbouring areas which have both established separate international reputations over more than 50 years of ski history. Both are famed not only for their skiing but also their scenic beauty, with Alpbach previously named ‘most beautiful village in Austria.’
The connection between the two is being made with an eight-seat gondola between Inneralpbach and the Schatzberg ski areaat Auffach in in Wildschonau thanks to a 13.5 Million Euro investment.
The combined area will have 145km (91 miles) of piste served by 47 lifts. The terrain will be made up of 33km of easy blue runs (22%), 77km of intermediate red runs (53%), 13km of
difficult black runs (8%) and 12km of off piste routes (7%). A six day lift pass will be 197 Euros for adults and 98.5 Euros for children.
