Its continuing to look like a great start to the season in all the ski regions of Italy with the snow lying deep and crisp and even in most areas, with cold weather for snowmaking too and more snow in the forecast.  It’s looking like the best start to winter for four years.

There are some big public holidays coming up this weekend so resorts have been trying to open as much terrain as they can for it.

Dolomiti Superski, which has the most terrain to open, reported all the region’s 12 skiing areas were  open from Wednesday, 6th December, a total of 844 km of slopes and 367 lifts – so a little;e more than two-thirds of their total terrain.  Alta Badia is pictured top and below.

In North Western Italy conditions are looking good too as the main season draws nearer.  There has been quite a lot of natural snowfall and cold temperatures for snowmaking.  More heavy snow is forecast soon.  Sestriere Online reports conditions are looking good ahead of the start of the season on Friday.
