Val d’Isère has announced plans to run a special snow train from Paris in late April, and is offering a free first class upgrade for the first 100 people to book.
“Not everyone realises that spring offers some of the best skiing of the entire season,” said a Val d’Isère spokesperson. “You need to hit the lifts as soon as they open, spend the morning chasing the sun around the mountains, catching the snow in that window when it’s neither too hard nor too soft. Then retire to the sunny terrace of a mountain restaurant for a late lunch and a lazy afternoon!”
Val d’Isère’s highest runs start at 3456m and the ski season continues right up until the first weekend of May.
The Val d’Isère Snow Express, a special train from Paris will depart on Thursday April 21st and return on Sunday 24th April. The resort is offering a special three-day weekend package, complete with hotel and lift pass at a discounted price.
Brits are advised to catch the Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris to join the Val d’Isère Snow Express there and this final fling on winter 2015-16 in the Alps, returning via Paris and back to London on April 24/25.
“Judging by present excellent snow levels, this promises to be a vintage season for spring skiing. In late March and April the snow crystals change in consistency, transforming the whole mountain into a giant piste,” the spokesperson continued.
The package, priced from 370€ (about £285) for a two star hotel stay, includes the return TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon to Bourg-St-Maurice, return coach transfer Bourg-St-Maurice to Val d’Isère, three nights B&B in a 2,m 3, or 4 star hotel, a three-day Val d’Isère-Tignes lift pass and a three-day swimming-pool and wellness pass at the Centre Aquasportif.
