Col de Balme, the highest sector of the classic French resort La Clusaz, renowned for its terrain and the Candide XXL freeride zone, has announced it will be introducing XXL signage to highlight its skiing stars in the tears to come, starting with Candide this winter. In addition La Clusaz will also boast a new chairlift this winter.

The new lift will maximise time on the iconic pistes of La Clusaz, giving speedier access to the summit and to 2km of descent. Also, a new 125m magic carpet at Louveteau in the Aguille sector, completes the double bill, alongside a newly developed beginner piste to enhance the novice ski experience.

The brand-new chairlift at Col de Balme is, “…more modern, more comfortable, and designed to maximize ski time in one of the ski area’s most iconic sectors,” a spokesperson commented, adding, “it supports the evolution of La Clusaz for the greatest pleasure of Balme lovers. The new lift will  make the most of this exceptional playground, with its wide-open spaces, snow and breathtaking views.”

At the same time, after opening last winter, the Candide Thovex piste is getting a new landmark. From this winter onwards, a giant marker will stand at its entrance, impossible to miss from the slopes.

An XXL sign for the piste named after one of La Clusaz’s most iconic skiers, and a reminder that the legend is still very much part of the landscape. “All you have to do is look up!” the spokesperson added.

This is just the beginning of a larger installation planned over the coming years. Champions are part of La Clusaz’s DNA, both in the village and across the ski area.

“To give a fresh spotlight to the pistes named after our athletes, a giant marker will be installed at each piste entrance, year after year. A fun way to introduce a new generation of skiers to the stories and achievements behind the names on the signs,” the spokesperson added.

Also new this winter, this time in the Louveteau sector, a new 125-metre-long magic carpet with a dedicated beginner area is being installed.

“It’s a simple way to expand the family-friendly offer and make it even easier for beginners to find their feet on the slopes,” the spokesperson concluded.
