Beaver Creek in Colorado was one of many Western North American ski areas that opened early for the season in November, in its case following 60 inches (1.25 metres) of pre-season snowfall.

For many of the resort’s fans though the big attraction for opening week was not just the skiing but the annual staging of the World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition.

This features five local bakers from the local Colorado’s Eagle and Summit Counties region each baking 1,000 cookies from their own signature recipe for visitors and judges to taste.

The winner the World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition, judged on taste, appearance, creativity and texture, takes home a $2,000 prize.

“Opening Day is one of my favourite days of the year,” said Nadia Guerriero, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Beaver Creek Resort who added, “There’s nothing better than getting back to skiing and snowboarding together. From fresh cookies to perfect corduroy, we have been hard at work preparing for this season’s kick-off.”
