The world’s most successful ever female skier, American Lindsey Vonn, has been talking to media about the recent publication of pictures of her naked, but ‘wearing’ a painted on swimsuit, taken for US publication Sports Illustrated.
Vonn has been sharing the pictures, taken back in November, along with videos of the photo shoot through her social media channels, but has received some negative comments from people who feel the images objectify women in sport and detract from her remarkable achievement of 76 World Cup wins (at time of writing) along with her work as an entrepreneur, for various charities, and as a general inspiration and role model to women and girls in particular.
Vonn, who had already appeared in the magazine in 2010 and also recently appeared in a Vogue fashion shoot, told media in La Thuile, Italy, where she is current competing, that,
“It’s showing that strong, athletic women can be beautiful, it’s not just skinny models. There’s a lot of different body types in this world. Everyone is beautiful in their own way.”
“It definitely was hard for me to have the self-confidence to do something like that. I got over it, and I’m learning to be more comfortable in my own skin,” Vonn added, concluding, “I’m proud that I’m able to be among such beautiful women.”
