TeamGB’s Charlotte Bankes has taken the Crystal Globe for being the overall winner for the season  after taking her fourth World Cup competition of 21-22, at Reieralm in Austria.

“What a day. Really happy to have push through today, was tough but worth it for sure. Thanks to my team for all your support and congrats to all the girls for a great battle today,” Bankes posted on social media.

Bankes, 26, was born in the UK at Hemel Hempstead, now home to The Snow Centre, but her family moved to Puy-Saint-Vincent in the southern French Alps when she was four. She raced for France up until after the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, when she switched to representing Great Britain.

She took her first World Cup podium finish for Team GB in a race in Breuil-Cervinia in December 2018, and took silver at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2019 held in Utah then gold at the 2021 Championships last season in Idre, Sweden.

Bankes had failed to make it past the quarter-finals at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing last month but now has an unassailable lead on the World Cup tour with 569 points, ahead of second-placed Michela Moioli of Italy who has 456 points, with the tour finals in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, where a maximum of 100 points can be won, still to come.
