Tamworth’s SnowDome says it is taking freestyle progression to new heights with the purchase two freestyle airbags.
“Skiers and snowboarders no longer need to head abroad to practise on freestyle airbags, with SnowDome offering the UK’s only airbag setups on real snow,” a spokesperson for the centre commented.
The new airbags have been introduced as part of the SnowDome’s ongoing investment in freestyle skiing and snowboarding, giving riders more opportunities to practise tricks, build confidence and experiment with new skills on real snow.
Available as part of selected Tamlands sessions at the West Midlands facility, the airbags are designed to give riders a dedicated space to work on their airtime and progression.
“From trying a first jump or rotation to taking on bigger tricks, riders can use the airbags to practise their technique and dial in new moves before taking them to the park,” the spokesperson added.
The new setup is being showcased through The Big Send, a dedicated airbag takeover on selected Saturday evenings. The sessions are intended to transform Tamlands into a freestyle playground focused on airtime, with both airbags available alongside the existing freestyle ski and snowboard setup.
“Freestyle is all about progression, trying something new and having fun along the way,” said Andrew David, Head of Snowsports at SnowDome. “The airbags give our riders another way to challenge themselves, whether they’re working on their first tricks or looking to take their riding further. We’re really excited to see what people bring to the slope.”
The airbags also form part of SnowDome’s wider commitment to developing the next generation of freestyle skiers and snowboarders. SnowDome is working with Snowsport England through its Futures Project, which supports young people to develop their freestyle skills through fun, coached sessions and provides a pathway for riders looking to progress further within the sport.
Alongside Futures, the wider Tamlands freestyle programme is designed to support skiers and snowboarders at different stages of their freestyle journey. Weekly Tamlands Tuesday sessions offer independent riding, coaching and progression opportunities, with features ranging from boxes and rails to kickers and airbags.
For those new to freestyle, SnowDome’s coaching sessions provide a supportive introduction to freestyle, while more experienced riders can take on advanced features and develop their tricks with expert guidance. The Big Send sessions are open to competent recreational skiers and snowboarders, with airbag spaces available as an add-on to a standard Tamlands slope pass.
