The Italian Dolomites have had one of their biggest and best snowfalls of a ‘challenging’ winter with up to 40cm of fresh snow reported.

There’s been similar snowfalls in the Italian Alps to the west too, although this is a part of Europe that’s had one of the best winters so far, with regular snowfalls all season.

Bormio, Madesimo and La Thuile each reported 50cm of fresh snow on March 1st, the biggest snowfalls reported in Europe in the latest snow storm.  Livigno and Madonna di Campiglio got 40cm of new snow.

Bases are good across much of Italy although still in the 30-50cm bracket in the Dolomites despite 20-40cm of fresh snow.  In the Alps it’s nearer 60-200cm.
