Skiing opportunities in Italy are somewhat limited in May with just Val Senales open for the first week of the month.
Cervinia still has the deepest base in the country on its upper slopes at 185cm (Just over 6 feet) as we enter May. It also reported over a foot (35cm) of fresh snow on 26th April (pictured below, Courmayeur pictured top).
Val Senales has 90cm (three feet) of snow lying.
Italy’s main remaining summer ski area on the Stelvio Pass is due to open at the end of this month on the 26th when the Pass re-opens to traffic for the summer and autumn.

So there’s not really anywhere likely to be open in Italy for the middle three weeks of May. The only unknown quantity is Passo Tonale, where, up to three summers ago, two advanced runs on the glacier stayed open through Spring. The past two summers have seen major summer upgrades and no spring/summer ski access as a result, but this year that work is over, so will the glacier lifts re-open in May and June? So far no one seems to know.
