The Stubai Glacier is offering 50% off lift tickets on Sunday 15th of October 2017 for skiers and boarders who arrive at the centre near Innsbruck  dressed in traditional Tyrolean clothing.

The Stubai is one of six Austrian glaciers that have already opened for the 2017-18 ski season (half of the 12 total open in the northern hemisphere at present) thanks in part to several big September snow storms.

The latest to open, the Kaunertal glacier, opened on Saturday, and another two Austrian glacier areas – the Dachstein and Kitzsteinhorn, will open this weekend.

The Solden, Pitztal and Stubai glaciers had opened over the two weekends before that;  the Molltal glacier, which had been temporarily closed due to the previous hot summer weather re-opened; and the Hintertux glacier is open year-round.

Base depths across the eight centres are in the 50-100cm bracket and most have between 3 and 10km of trails open so far although Hintertux says 22km.
