There have been some remarkable snowfalls in Italy this week after a dry and sunny Christmas.

Arabba reported an incredible 120cm (four feet) of fresh snow in 24 hours at the start of what’s forecast to be a week of snowfall at Italy’s ski areas.

The Dolomiti Superski region saw at least 60cm (two feet) of snow at virtually all areas within its huge area on the same day – believed to be the biggest snowfalls in the area for nearly four years making this the best ski season start since 2014-15.

This pic was taken in Arabba as the snow was starting to build:

There were big snowfalls further West too with ski resorts in the Italian Alps posting big snowfalls as well, if not quite so big as in the Dolomites.

The Presena glacier now has the deepest base in the country at 2.5m, a little above second placed Madesimo (2.2m) but more importantly almost all Italian ski areas are now looking good for the start of 2018 with healthy bases and fresh snow.
