It looks like there’s no lift-accessed outdoor skiing available in France until the last day of September, when Tignes is scheduled to re-open.
It is difficult to tell from their website but it seems Les 2 Alpes, which was due to stay open for skiing to the first weekend of September (the only French area to do so), has decided to close early with temperatures in the double digits above freezing on the glacier and most recent reports describing conditions as ‘tough’ and the base as down to 35cm.
Like the rest of the Alps French glaciers have been struggling against hot temperatures all summer thawing snow cover, although there were some significant snow storms during a break in the heat in early August, as per the video from Tignes below, and the picture above.
