Most Left Behind Items

A ski chalet holiday company has revealed which items are most left behind by guests and has advice on packing efficiently and effectively.

Unsurprisingly phone chargers and EU adapters topped the list with the phones, iPads and kindles themselves the fourth most commonly left items. Odd socks and gloves placed second and perhaps most surprisingly passports with the third most forgotten items. Children’s soft toys were fifth.

“When it comes to ski holiday packing, taking too much is our biggest faux pas, forgetting to pack phone chargers and EU travel adapters comes a close second. On the return leg, items most left behind in ski chalets include those very phone chargers, as well as odd socks, gloves and passports, while one guest managed to leave an entire wardrobe of clothes behind, and another, valuable diamond jewellery,” says Sales & Marketing director of Ski Beat, Laura Hazell.

Ski Beat have now been hosting guests to France for 34 ski seasons and have plenty of packing advice:

  • Pack thin layers, not thick woollies, and wear, don’t pack, ski jackets. Roll clothes and salopettes tightly, don’t fold, they will crease less and there is no time for ironing on a ski holiday. Formal wear and heels have no place in a ski resort, but slippers do, and are a godsend after ski boots. Chalets are a home from home, not a place to dress up, and slippers are de rigueur for that relaxed vibe!
  • Remember to pack chargers and EU adapters. Weighty family sized shampoo and conditioners are not necessary and risk spills in luggage. Travel sizes of favourite brands will suffice; SkiBeat chalets also provide l’Occitane mini sets, and most have hair driers too.
  • The priority should be to pack warm, waterproof and protective clothes, including hats, gloves, ski socks (with padding), eye protection, high factor sun cream, moisturiser, and swimming gear, as many resorts and chalets offer pools, hot tubs and spa treatments.”

Top packing fails

  1. packing too much and struggling through airports, snow and ice
  2. forgetting to pack EU adapters and chargers for electronics
  3. bringing non-essentials, such as heels
  4. bringing British food, the Europeans have tea-bags too
  5. prioritising glamour wear over warmth and comfort

Essential ski packing list

  1. warm layers
  2. waterproof & warm jacket, hats, gloves and ski socks
  3. comfortable après ski wear
  4. eye protection
  5. phone chargers and adapters

Random extras

  1. Zip-lock bags – to protect phones, get rid of tissues or carry a snack
  2. Duct tape – for instant repairs, and identifying /closing bags/luggage securely
  3. power bank/double adapter – for multiple recharging
  4. Slippers
  5. Sanitizer gel and wipes

Don’t even consider packing

  1. Heeled shoes / boots
  2. Formal wear
  3. Expensive jewellery – drop a ring off a ski lift and wait months for the snow to melt
  4. Bulky toiletries
  5. Hair straighteners
