Save In Marvellous Megève In February

Megève is one of the world’s great ski resorts but its surprisingly low on the radar of many British skiers and boarders.

At the heart of one of the largest ski areas in the French Alps, with a great snowfall record and one of the closest to Geneva airport, only 70 minutes away (or easiest drives from Calais), the ski resort was established by the famous Rothschild family nearly a century ago to compete with then up-and-coming ski destinations like St Moritz. They recognised, even then, that it was a special place with its cobbled streets, horse drawn caleche (taxis) and medieval church.  It’s not clear if they noted how its proximity to Mont Blanc helped boost the annual snowfall volumes and quality but that’s still the case to this day.

In the decades since the ski area around it has expanded exponentially to cover more than 400km slopes and today there’s something for everyone from gentle blues and greens winding through the trees to steeper reds and blacks all with fantastic views of Mont Blanc.

At the same time Megève’s reputation has quietly grown and grown, with a strong foodie culture and some great boutique shopping being added to its many attributes. With the sparkly fairy lights and Christmas trees, it’s truly magical.  But the French have been keen to keep it very much to themselves and there are few of the big mass-market holiday companies here.

Save On a Megève Holiday in February

Family-run Stanford Skiing have been the Megève experts for more than three decades and have a number of chalets and self-catering properties available, as well as all the support, expertise and local knowledge you could ever need.

This February, just as prices seem to be rising everywhere, they have managed to hold prices at their superior chalet Les Clochettes, located just a few minutes stroll down from the central square of Megève, to last winter’s prices. That includes both short breaks and ski weekends, for which Megève is particularly well suited given its proximity to Geneva Airport and Stanford skiing can also assist with organising customer shuttles.

The Clochettes is a beautiful chalet in a great location just a couple of minutes’ walk from the ski lift and in on a quiet cul de sac. This lovely chalet has a huge open plan sitting/dining room with views of the mountains and a sauna to ease any muscular aches and pains after a day on the slope.  You’ll also have your own live in professional chef couple ready to cook mouth-watering food for you.

But while Clochettes would be a lovely chalet wherever it was, what makes it really special is that it’s in Megève.
