After our success in Sochi, British hopes are riding high for the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships running until 25 January at Kreischberg in Styria, Austria – the biggest freestyle event outside of the Olympics.

The 85th Lauberhorn World Cup Race above Wengen will see racers hit 100mph on the famous 4.5km course, the longest and one of the most dramatic downhill races to watch.

The famous Sundance Film Festival gets underway in Park City, Utah – it runs until 1 February.

Four days of racing begin at Kitzbühel, including the Hahnenkamm Men’s Downhill, regarded as the most demanding course on the World Cup Circuit with jumps of up to 80m, steep slopes reaching 85% and speeds up to 140km/h, with less than 2 minutes to complete the 3.3km course.

The 12th European Olympic Winter Youth Festival staged in Montafon (Austria) and Liechtenstein over 6 days will see 1000 of the best emerging athletes on the continent compete in seven sports, including Alpine skiing and snowboarding.

The new European Freeride Festival debuts at Livigno in Italy. It runs until 4 February.

The world’s elite freeriders meet at Austria’s most prestigious freeride competition in Fieberbrunn, Tirol’s ultimate backcountry Mecca, for the Swatch Freeride World Tour.

The World Alpine Skiing Championships, the bi-annual event that’s second only to the Olympics for Alpine racers, is back in Colorado for the next fortnight.

The famous White Turf horse races on the frozen lake at St Moritz, first run in 1907, are back for three February weekends. The other races are on 15 and 22 Febraury.
