International artists have created a circus from 500 tonnes of snow at Ischgl.  Clowns, lions, seals and acrobats standing 5m tall are overseen by The Ringmaster – the creation of English artists Justin Scott and Martin Sharp.

Justin, Martin and eight other pairs of artists from Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria spent five days crafting the snow sculptures in Ischgl’s annual Shapes In White exhibition, on this year’s Circus theme.

The snow figures will be on show on Ischgl’s 238km of piste right through to the end of the ski season at the beginning of May.

Shapes In White is a long-standing event in Ischgl’s calendar and this year marks the 23rd anniversary. It was an idea borne out of necessity, as huge snowfalls meant an excessive amount of snow was being piled up beside the pistes and the Paznaun-Ischgl Tourist Office spotted the creative opportunity to create an open-air snow sculpture gallery for skiers and snowboarders.
