Ski areas across the Alps have been reporting 20-50cm of fresh snow over the past 48 hours.
In most cases the new snow is falling on top of bases that have built up over a largely cold and snowy autumn so the result is powder snow conditions on top of a good base. Meribel is pictured above.

Ski areas in France reporting big snowfalls included Courchevel and other 3 Valleys resorts for opening weekend; Portes du Soleil ski areas which are enjoying their second pre-season early-opening weekend and centres including Flaine and Samoens in the Grand Massif. Tignes and Val d’Isere the latter staging World Cup racing this weekend, have also seen heavy snow.
But resorts in Austria, Italy and Switzerland have reported good snowfalls too. Lech posted the video below. Villars reported 30cm of snow on Saturday and another 20cm today.
Snow is forecast to continue falling all weekend and in to next week at many areas.
