Whilst snowfalls of up to six feet (1.8m) have been reported in the Alps over the weekend, equally huge accumulations have been reported in the Pyrenees in the last 72 hours. In fact the snowfall has extended across the Iberian peninsula to even bring a deep dump of snow to Portugal’s only ski area, Serra da Estrella.
Resorts in Andorra have reported just under four feet (1.2m) of fresh snow over the weekend. Grandvalira, the largest area in the Pyrenees, reported 114cm of fresh snow 30cm of it on Saturday/Sunday.
Resorts in the French Pyrenees have also been dumped on and despite many resorts in the French Alps reporting 1 – 1.8m of fresh snow, St Lary currently has the country’s fourth biggest base depth at 210cm/260cm, with other French Pyrenean areas reporting 1.2m or more at resort level, and mostly 2m plus on upper runs.
Resorts in the Spanish Pyrenees have been posting remarkable images and videos on social media, including the one above from Panticosa, and one from Formigal of a groomer driver jumping out of the door of his snow groomer in to a snow drift up to his neck.
