We always get asked, ‘How do I get comfy ski boots’? So we decided to treat ourselves to a new pair of ski boots after a decade of wearing our old ones that were too comfortable for their own good.
We went to the Ellis Brigham Boot Fitting Lab at Milton Keynes, where we experienced their professional and personalised service. The video below captures the whole process as it happened, with no edits or retakes. We only cut out some parts to make it more watchable.
It took us about an hour and a half to find the perfect pair of boots for us, with the help of the expert fitters. We tried on three different pairs, each with custom moulded footbeds, until we felt the right fit, comfort and performance.
We hope you enjoy watching our boot fitting adventure and learn something from it. 😊
Why Proper Ski Boot Fitting Matters
Finding the right ski boot is crucial, not just for comfort, but also for performance and safety. Ill-fitting boots can lead to sore feet, reduced control on the slopes, and even injuries. Here’s what we learned about getting the perfect fit:
- Custom Moulded Footbeds: These are essential. They support your foot’s natural shape and improve boot fit, enhancing both comfort and control.
- Trying Multiple Options: It took us about an hour and a half to find the perfect pair of boots. We tried on three different pairs, each with custom moulded footbeds, to ensure the right fit, comfort, and performance.
- Expert Guidance: The expert fitters at Ellis Brigham were invaluable. They provided insights into how each boot should feel, advising on the best choices for our foot shape and skiing style.
Common Ski Boot Fitting Challenges
While finding the right boots, we encountered some common issues:
Pressure Points
Many skiers experience pressure points in their boots, leading to discomfort. Custom fit liners and heat moulding can address these issues, ensuring even pressure distribution across the foot.
Heel Lift
A common problem, heel lift can reduce control. A snug fit with the help of specialised footbeds can minimise movement, keeping your foot secure.
Cold Feet
Cold toes can spoil a day’s skiing. Insulated boots with proper fitting can help maintain warmth, and some come with integrated heating elements for added comfort.
