Our first look at this boot for 2026/27, based on the brand’s specs and fit information. We’ll add a full InTheSnow review once our testers have skied it. How we test.

If you’ve got a narrow heel, you’ll know the routine: buckles cranked to the last notch and your foot still lifting in the turn. The new Salomon S/Pro Alpha C BOA goes after that problem from a different angle, and it’s one of the more interesting boot launches of the season.

What’s new about the Alpha C BOA?

The big change is at the ankle. Salomon has removed the medial pivot, the hinge that normally joins cuff and shell on the inside of the boot, and replaced it with a metal Powerlink piece that ties the two together much lower down. That makes the cuff effectively longer and wraps the rear foot more securely.

Salomon calls the wider construction Exodrive: a third cuff overlap, extra plastic and PU layering and a shifted pivot, all aimed at better heel hold and more direct power to the ski. A metal Power Spine at the back adds support and rebound out of the turn. The BOA dial sits on the cuff rather than the lower shell, so it wraps your leg rather than squeezing your forefoot. Powerlink also stays compatible with traditional cuff alignment, which your boot fitter will be glad to hear.

Who is it for?

This is a low-volume performance boot on a 98mm last, built on the Alpha fit that Salomon describes as accommodating for its width. Think strong intermediates and upwards with narrow to average feet who want precision and a locked-in heel. The 130 is a stiff, expert-level flex. The women’s 115 W brings the same technology in a softer, lighter package (1,668g against 1,928g, as listed).

Our InTheSnow view

On paper, this is the most original idea in boots this season. Moving the pivot sounds like a small engineering tweak, but heel hold is where so many skiers lose control, and anything that locks the rear foot in without more buckle pressure is worth a look. The usual caveat with a new design applies: it lives or dies on fit, so try it on with a good boot fitter before you fall for the tech. We’ll report back once our testers have had it on snow.

The InTheSnow verdict

A clever rethink of the performance boot for narrower feet, and the one we’re most curious to ski this winter.

What we like

  • Heel hold tackled at the source, not with more buckle pressure
  • BOA on the cuff for an even wrap around the leg
  • Men’s and women’s versions with the same tech
  • GripWalk soles for the walk to the lift

Worth knowing

  • The 98mm low-volume last won’t suit wide feet
  • The 130 flex is for strong skiers
  • A brand new design, so try before you buy
  • Not yet tested by our team

Who should buy it?

Confident skiers with low-volume feet who struggle with heel lift, and anyone who’s been happy in a Salomon Alpha and wants more precision. If your feet are wide, a high-volume boot such as the HEAD Edge 130 HV BOA is a better starting point.

FAQs

Is the Salomon S/Pro Alpha C BOA good for wide feet?

No. It’s built on a 98mm low-volume last for narrow to average feet. If your feet are wide, look at medium-volume (around 100mm) or high-volume (around 102mm) boots instead.

What is Salomon Powerlink?

Powerlink is a metal piece that links the cuff and shell lower down the boot, replacing the inside pivot. Salomon says it improves heel hold and power transmission while staying compatible with traditional cuff alignment.

Is there a women’s version of the Alpha C BOA?

Yes. The S/Pro Alpha C BOA 115 W uses the same technology with a 115 flex and a listed weight of 1,668g per boot.

Where to buy

The Salomon S/Pro Alpha C BOA 130 is £640 and the 115 W is £560 at Ellis Brigham. Prices correct at the time of writing.
