Dogs and their owners will be in competition in New Zealand this Friday 22 June when the annual Dog Derby takes place for the first time at Cardrona Alpine Resort as part of the Queenstown Winter Festival.
There are two main events as part of the contest, a ‘running and sliding’ race sponsored by the Monteith brewing company and a barking competition, also open to both dogs and their owners.
The barking competition has an interesting twist. Dogs are required to bark on cue and if they don’t their owner is required to get down on all fours and bark on their dog’s behalf.
“Now why wouldn’t you watch that?” asks a Festival organiser.
