The Swiss glacier ski area of Diavolezza in the Engadin region near to St Moritz has opened for its 2017-18 ski season (which will last to late spring next year).
The ski centre decided to entertain the first arrivals at the area with something a little different, a performance artiste who highlighted the ancient legend of the glacier: “La Diavolezza” a beautiful she-devil who lured away male travellers and hunters who entered her icy territory, most of whom were never seen again.
Fortunately most skiers and boarders do make it to the end of the famous ski run here.
Diavolezza is the fourth Swiss ski area to open for the season, joining Engelberg, Saas Fee and Zermatt.
The opening could also be well timed with up to 50cm of snow forecast to fall in the Alps over the next 36 hours.
