Over 100 people taking a free TRY ski or snowboard session were joined by GB ski star Chemmy Alcott and BBC Ski Sunday producer Graham Bell at Skiplex, Reading as the winter season kicked off at the Slide2Sochi Winter Olympic roadshow.

With the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in February less than six months away, the roadshow organised by governing body Snowsport England alongside Skiplex, was buzzing with Olympic fever at the relatively new ski centre which opened in December last year. Over 250 people passed through the doors of Skiplex in total with a great family atmosphere dominating the day.

For those 100 people who took advantage of the try ski and snowboard sessions which are part of Snowsport England’s new national snowsports participation campaign, GO SKI GO BOARD, they will now be able to take an all-inclusive, value for money set of ski or snowboard sessions – guaranteeing they will catch the snowsports bug.

“We absolutely loved having over 100 skiers plus all their supporters at Skiplex for the Slide2Sochi event with Chemmy Alcott and Graham Bell,” said Skiplex Marketing Manager Cordelia Kerr, “It was fantastic to see so many people introduced to skiing and boarding for the first time and, through the GO SKI GO BOARD programme, encourage more people to learn. Skiplex gives skiers and boarders the opportunity to maximise their time on the slope due to its revolving characteristic. They are not limited by lifts or slope length therefore can get the absolute most out of each lesson.”

“It’s so important for me to get involved with spreading my passion of skiing to others,” said Chemmy, “Feeling like I somehow made a difference and a contribution to the hundreds of skiers, many who were first timers, who came through those doors at Skiplex Reading is of paramount importance to me. The feedback from everyone was massively important and to be honest I think I was as excited helping everyone out as they were to meet me so thank you to all the next generation who I was fortunate enough to meet today!”
