A determined British skier has broken the record for the most countries skied in a month, with 10 days to spare.

Jamie Stevenson who works for Edinburgh-based tour operator Ski Independence made his solo effort to beat the old record of 15 countries in 31 days and ended up smashing the Guinness World Record by skiing 17 countries in just 21 days.  Along with setting the new record, Jamie raised over £3000 for Disability Snowsport UK.  Jamie had planned to ski 20 countries, but there was insufficient snow to ski in three of the countries on his list.

“When the idea originally came into my head nine months ago, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I love skiing and I love challenging myself – so why not set a new Guinness World Record? Being able to raise money for an excellent charity, Disability Snowsport Scotland, while visiting a lot of continental Europe in my own car sounded like a great idea on paper!” said Jamie.

Jamie set off on his mammoth 6000 mile journey early on Saturday 1st March, safely navigating his first run in the Cairngorms, Scotland (pictured above), before departing for Baqueira Beret in Spain for the second leg of his journey.  21 days later, after 5000 gruelling miles on the road, Jamie completed his 17th country skied in Norway, taking in Andorra, France, Italy Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany,  Slovenia, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland and Sweden en route

Among his many achievements, Jamie skied France, Italy and Switzerland in one day.  He also visited battled blizzards on the roads of Andorra and Sweden and visited Croatia, Hungary and Lithuania but found the resorts there closed with no snow.
