Booking an expensive luxury chalet in the Alps usually comes with many perks. Gourmet food and free-flowing unlimited champagne is a given, as is a team of staff ready to meet your every need, including a concierge service to ensure the skiing bit goes seamlessly and (for you) effortlessly. These days you can find lots of additional services available too – perhaps a “dog nanny” for example?
But how about giving you the power to control time itself?
That was the challenge faced by staff from Consensio Chalets last season when a guest from Asia requested his chalet in the French Alps was run on Hong Kong time, that’s seven hours ahead of European time, so that it was easy for him to stick to his business timetable.
It wasn’t as simple as just switching the whole chalet to Hong Kong time either, as while the party leader wanted to work on his local Hong Kong time, his family wanted to ski so needed to be on French time.
To successfully achieve this request, Consensio Chalets had two teams working on different schedules to accommodate the whole party.
This miracle of having guests living in two time zones in one building was achieved in the luxurious Chalet Marco Polo in the heart of the French ski resort of Val d’Isère.
Discreetly set back from the main road to give easy access to the heart of the famous ski resort while also affording plenty of privacy, Chalet Marco Polo offers 1000m² of alpine-chic living space, combining contemporary and traditional materials to create a stylish result.
The large living area features an open-plan lounge and dining area that is set around a central fireplace. This extends onto a large balcony through glass doors and comes complete with an outdoor kitchen and heated seating, offering panoramic views of the notorious La Face piste. For when it is too chilly outside, the bar area is the perfect spot for an après-ski cocktail.
The chalet features its own indoor swimming pool with Jet Stream tiles and gold leaf design by Christian Lacroix, an indoor hot tub, hammam, three massage and treatment rooms, one with a hydro-massage bed, and can accommodate up to 10 adults and four children sharing six rooms.
The chalet also includes a fully equipped gym with two of each machine so there’s no squabbling over who uses what when, a games and entertainment room with pool table, a wine and cheese tasting cellar and two bars.
New this year is a retro eight-car racing game( think Scalextric for grown-ups) and a biathlon laser shooting game.
The chalet’s ski room is actually a reconstructed cable car cabin rebuilt in the chalet’s basement, and ski fitting is done inside this.
Consensio Chalets offer Chalet Marco Polo from €22,800 (around £20,300) to €137,800 (around £122,650) per week (depending on dates), based on up to 10 adults and four children sharing six rooms. This is on a fully inclusive basis, and includes two hours of complimentary spa treatments a day, use of all chalet facilities and an in-resort chauffeur driving a 4×4 Caravelle. consensiochalets.co.uk
