(the correct La Plagne)
A bus full of Belgian skiers heading to the French ski resort of la Plagne took longer than expected to arrive after the driver relied on GPS to direct him to the giant ski area, but selected the wrong la Plagne.
The ski area itself has 10 separate base villages spread over quite a large area, but there are several other la Plagnes in France too, and the bus driver unfortunately selected a small village close to the Spanish border and Mediterranean sea about 600km further south than the ski area.
The error more than doubled the trip from Belgium, which should have been around 900km, but ended up nearer 2,000km by the time the driver realised his error and headed back north.
The bus arrived at the correct La Plagne around 24 hours late and with most of the 50 skiers on board in good humour, according to Belgian radio reports, which also said their accommodation providers greeted them with a Spanish style tapas meal.
