Austria Snow Report & Forecast to 28th April, 2018

Austria snow report shows that glacier ski areas tend to come in to their own in late spring right through to the end of Autumn as the eight centres often mean there are more ski areas open in Austria than the rest of Europe put together.

But that’s not quite the case yet and the focus this weekend is more on the last weekend of the season for some non-glacier ski areas including Kitzbuhel (although some reports indicate it may go another week), which has remarkably clocked up a nearly 7 month season since opening in early October), Obertauern and Ischgl, with its Top of the Mountain concert.  The Arlberg, closing for the season, still has 5m of snow lying.

But with hot weather in the valleys it’s definitely the glaciers that have the best of the snow now.  The Dachstein reports the deepest in the country at 5.5m but most others are in much better shape in terms of snow depth that they were at this time last year.  Solden, also closing for the season, has 3.3m.  The Molltal, Stubai and year-round Hintertux around 4m.
