More than half of Austria’s top ski areas are now open – that’s getting towards 100 ski areas.

Amongst the big name ski centres opening for the first time this week are Lech (pictured top and below) in the Arlberg region – which has had a particularly strong build up to the season with loads of November snowfall.

It reported 150km of terrain open in the Arlberg area and a 70-110cm opening base.

There was more healthy snowfall in the middle of last week with many Austrian resorts seeing 15-30cm of fresh snow.

Big winners included the Stubai glacier which got yet another 40cm in 24 hours at the end of November, about the fourth or fifth 40cm+ snowfall there in an exceptionally snowy November.
