Alpine mapping specialists, 2theAlps, have announced the release of a free download of an updated version of ‘The Alps – Skiing by Train’ map, including the new autumn 2026 European Sleeper route from Brussels to Milan through the heart of the Alps.
The map includes over 230 resorts, most of which have their own railway station – for others a bus route is shown to the nearest station. It’s available as a free download or a paid-for higher resolution version with an indexed grid to help locate resorts, towns and cities across the seven Alpine countries.
Sleeper train routes to the Alps usually change a little every winter with new routes added or old routes withdrawn. The most exciting new addition so far announced for the 2026/2027 season is the European Sleeper service linking Brussels with Milan.
Due to run three times a week, the train will call at several stations in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Leaving Brussels at 17:56, the train reaches Zurich just after 06:30 before calling at the mountain towns of Arth-Goldau at 07:21 and Goschenen at 08:11 for easy onward rail connections to classic Swiss resorts such as Engelberg and Andermatt. Goschenen is just a 10-minute rail connection from the iconic Glacier Express route which runs between Zermatt and St Moritz.

The map features a host of other sleeper train routes which can be used for journeys between the UK and the Alps including services via Paris (to the French Alps), Amsterdam (to Innsbruck, Vienna and Zurich) and Brussels (to the eastern Alps and Vienna). It also includes the winter season Eurostar between London and Bourg St Maurice via Lille. Ferry services across the Channel and the North Sea are also shown. The Newhaven-Dieppe and Harwich-Hook of Holland ferries are particularly well integrated with railway stations at either end, and can provide part of a surprisingly cost-effective route to the Alps in the winter time, particularly at short notice.
The 2theAlps research team reported back on a route-less-travelled from London to the French Alps via the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry and the sleeper train from Paris to Briancon (Case Study: London to Serre Chevalier Briancon by ferry and train | Ski Flight Free) all of which can be planned using the new map.
2theAlps also produces other publications including their best-selling Ski Resort Map of the Alps with over 600 resorts, and customised maps as well as foreign language versions (German and Polish). The maps are available as gifts printed on a range of products such as shower curtains, rucksacks, clocks, t-shirts and mugs.
The 2026 download of ‘The Alps – Skiing by Train’ is available here. It is also available to purchase printed on various media.
