Where to Ski or Board in Switzerland, Snow Report and Forecast to 22nd April, 2018

It has been a largely sunny and dry week in Switzerland and the week ahead is looking much the same.

Temperatures have been getting well in to double figures in the valleys, but are sticking closer to zero for much of the time on high ski slopes.

Most Swiss resorts have now closed with many of the remaining areas that are still open closing this weekend or next, but some will be staying open in to May.

Among them Engelberg, which is still reporting the deepest snowbase in Europe and the second deepest in the world at 7m.  It’s ski run down to the village over 2000 vertical metres is still open, although looking a bit sketchy down in the valley.  Today is the last day it can be skied but the centre will be open another five weeks afterwards to late May thanks to all the snow on the glacier.

Generally conditions are best up high of course, with the snow freezing overnight and in good shape from around 10am to 2pm when it starts to get too sticky.  Off piste the avalanche danger is high due to the changable conditions and spring thaw.

Three other Swiss areas are open in to May: Zermatt (year round there in fact); the Diavolezza glacier near St Moritz and Glacier 3000 near Gstaad and Les Diablerets,
