Morzine is one of the most sought-after ski resorts in the Alps. Not only does it lie in a key location in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, one of the world’s largest, which straddles the French–Swiss border, but it’s also one of the world’s most characterful resorts.
That means it’s no soulless purpose-built altitude resort but a real historic community now full of lively bars, great restaurants and enticing shops. The perfect base for a great ski holiday.
The main thing to watch out for when you book a Morzine location, though, is location. Choose the wrong place and you can be too far from the lifts, or too far from the heart of the resort. What’s more, a lot of the resort spends much of the winter in shadow most of the time due to the high mountains above, so that’s less fun to stay in!
The Hermine Blanche is a warm and welcoming hotel run by Alpine Elements located on the “Sunny Side” of Morzine, facing the sun all day long. It’s just a six- or seven-minute walk from the boot room to the Super Morzine gondola lifts and the centre of town – or if you’re wanting to make it really easy, you can just hop on the ski bus, with the bus stop only 100m away.
The friendly hotel has excellent facilities including a comfy lounge complete with pool table and an open fireplace. There’s also a licensed bar, restaurant and a wellness suite with indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna and indoor Jacuzzi hot tub. There’s free wi-fi for guests, and overnight ski storage includes heated boot warmers and ski/board storage facility.
To make the most of its sunny position, there’s a sun deck from which you can enjoy spectacular views of the resort and ski slopes beyond from the hotels’ elevated position.
In terms of bedrooms there’s a choice of light, airy Classic and Premium en-suite twins, doubles and family suites with balconies and satellite TV showing some British channels.
The Hermine Blanche has so many plus points it’s a great choice for your Morzine holiday. alpineelements.co.uk
