Squaw Valley Battles to Open Spring Pool Area

Squaw Valley above Lake Tahoe in California has had to bring in diggers to try to clear snow from their spring skiing hub – High Camp.

Squaw Valley is often known as “the spring skiing capital of North America” because it usually stays open in to May and often June thanks to the deep snow base it usually builds up through the winter.

Visitors arriving after Easter usually have the twin pleasures of snowsports and an open air hot tub and swimming pool on the mountain to relax in, which re-opens each spring.

This year however, with the snow lying more than six metres (20 feet) deep it has proved a major operation to dig down to the swimming pool and diggers have had to be called in.

As of yet Squaw Valley are unsure when they’ll be able to open the pools,

“We do plan to open the hot tub this season! We are still in the process of digging out and need to make sure nothing is damaged from the massive 20+ feet of snow sitting on it, so there’s no set date right now. Stay tuned!” a resort spokesperson commented to one enquirer on social media.

Squaw Valley have said they’ll be open at least to the US Independence Day holiday weekend around July 4th this year and their CEO has recently said that they are considering staying open right through to next winter 2017-18 if feasible.
