Scottish Highland ski centres are reporting some of their best snow conditions for several years following heavy snowfall across the region.

“60 or 70cm of fresh snow has fallen in the last 72 hours meaning that all runs on the mountain now have a great cover of windblown fresh snow. This should provide some amazing skiing tomorrow from the summit all the way to the car park,” a Glencoe spokesperson said.

Cairngorm (below) reports 34cm (14 inches) in the past 24 hours.

The five centres had all been open since around Boxing Day thanks to consistently low temperatures but snow cover was quite thin and limited terrain open at most of the centres.

Temperatures finally rose at the weekend leading to an unwelcome thaw but since Tuesday heavy snowfall has been hitting the region adding several feet of snow – and the snow is forecast to continue through to the weekend at least.

Conditions were a little too wild for Glencoe to open today but from tomorrow on (18th January) it’s looking good.
