Mt Buller in Australia is the first resort south of the equator to report it has started snowmaking ahead of the 2018 ski season, due to commence at the first resorts in Southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand in about six weeks with South American resorts usually opening from mid-June.
Sunshine, 15 degrees and yes – that would be SNOW ❄️❄️❄️

Mt Buller uses an all-weather Snow Factory machine for snowmaking and also reported another dusting of natural snowfall last weekend.
“The snowmaking team decided to make some flakes of their own. The Factory only started up last night and there is already a big and growing pile of snow on Bourke Street,” a ski area spokesperson said.
Most Australian ski areas open for the official Queen’s Birthday Weekend, which is a national holiday in the country, but some years there’s no natural snowfall that early in the season and it is too warm for traditional snowmaking machines to work. Mt Buller say they can guarantee snow thanks to the Snow Factory so people can plan trips there for opening weekend knowing there will definitely be some snow whatever happens.
“The Queen’s Birthday long weekend on Mt Buller is going to go off with a bang! On Saturday, make sure you head to the Village Square where there’ll be rocking live entertainment, tasty winter warmers and cool kids activities, culminating in the fireworks extravaganza at 6pm,” the spokesperson continued.
