Arapahoe Basin, the only ski area still open in Colorado, staged its annual ‘ Swimwear Day ’ on Saturday with prizes for the best outfits.
“Wow, did folks turn out for this one,” said the resort’s Adrienne Saia Isaac, “A few hundred beach bunnies and surfer boys dressed up in their finest summer swimwear, from Hawaiian shirts to scuba gear to… well, very small Speedos more befitting of Michael Phelps than your average skier or snowboarder.”
Arapahoe Basin, one of the world’s highest ski areas, plans to remain open seven days a week for skiing and riding until Sunday, June 3rd and may extend their season, which began last October, still further if conditions permit.
Currently temperatures are ranging between minus 8 and plus 8 Celcius with the snow depth over 1.2 metres (four feet), around 50 runs open and almost all lifts operating.
