About 10 North American resorts will stay open to the country’s Memorial Day holiday at the end of May (or later).
One of these, Mt Bachelor in Oregon, reported 25cm/10 inches fresh snow overnight on Monday/Tuesday.
Other options include Mt Rose, Squaw Valley and Mammoth in California, where snow depths and snowfall figures are at near record levels. Mammoth and Squaw will stay open to at least July 4th with Squaw reported to be considering staying open right through to NEXT winter season 17-18.
Other options include Arapahoe Basin in Colorado, Snowbird in Utah and Timberline in Oregon.
On the East Coast, Killington (below) tries to keep one run open where it has piled snow all winter – it doesn’t really set a projected closing date.
North of the border Lake Louise stays open for the first few days of May but Sunshine, its neighbouring resort at Banff, and Whistler Blackcomb over on the BC coast to the west (pictured top this week) will both be open for the first three weeks of May.
