France saw some of the biggest snowfalls in Europe over the past week with last weekend especially snowy.

Some areas got as much as 95cm (over three feet) of snow over the seven days, and many of the big name resorts reported at least 50-70cm, almost all got at least 30cm.

The snow wasn’t just in the Alps, there were big snowfalls in the Pyrenees too.

The snowfall was the biggest seen this season so far in some areas. Resorts reporting the biggest falls included Alpe d’Huez and Argentiere which got 95cm each, Chamonix and La Clusaz 75cm and Val d’Isere 67cm.  Base depths are now healthy pretty much across the country.  Chatel pictured below, Tignes top.

All the snow left great on piste conditions and the chance for freeriders to head off piste in fresh powder.

Some ski areas are still getting more fresh snow but it is expected to lessen over the next few days with largely clear skies currently expected in the week ahead, although if forecasts are correct some areas may still see more significant snowfalls.
