The senior vice president of the Big White Ski Resort in BC, Canada, is urging people not to use their smartphones whilst skiing or boarding.
Michael Ballingall told Canada’s Global News that resort staff were receiving an increasing number of reports of texting, talking and filming on smartphones while skiers and boarders are in motion.
He also said he believed an increasing number of people were skiing or boarding without helmets compared to previously, and that more were opting to ski alone. Which increases the risk of being undetected in the event of an accident.
“The reality is, if a skier or snowboarder is operating a smartphone, they’re not paying attention to where they’re going and it can pose a safety hazard,” Ballingall was quoted as saying.
